In Search of Undiscovered Heroes

Center for Holistic Development, Inc

Behavioral Healthcare & Education

We have served a diverse community by providing holistic behavioral healthcare services and educational programs to individuals, families, and groups since 2001. Our programs and services are uniquely designed to culturally, linguistically, and developmentally meet the needs of all individuals that walk through our doors.

The Voice Project

The Voice Project Omaha is a community resource created to support the mental health and emotional well-being of Black youth in Omaha by connecting individuals with counseling information, guidance, and local providers. The organization also works to reduce stigma around mental health by offering educational resources, tips for seeking counseling, and access to culturally responsive support services.

City Sprouts

Our mission is to use urban agriculture as a platform to develop equitable food systems, provide educational opportunities, and build community.

We work with Omaha-area residents, volunteers, and interns to grow vegetables, flowers, and herbs using sustainable gardening practices in our community gardens and urban farms. Through educational programs for all ages, we teach gardening, cooking, food preservation, and other valuable skills while helping strengthen local food systems, improve community health, and support neighborhood growth. We are committed to creating a welcoming environment where people from diverse backgrounds can learn and grow together. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit led by a volunteer board, we are proud members of the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands and the Greater Omaha Chamber.

Soil Health + Conservation

The City Sprouts Soil Health & Conservation program aims to advance soil health and conservation practices among urban growers. In partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), these initiatives are designed to support urban growers in accessing technical assistance, adopting conservation practices, and improving soil health. We hope you’ll join us at our upcoming soil health workshops, field days, events, and more

Keep Omaha Beautiful

Keep Omaha Beautiful fosters environmental and community stewardship through education, service, and advocacy.

Throughout our history, Keep Omaha Beautiful has always focused on engaging and educating the local community about environmental stewardship and the wise use of resources. We are proud to have led a number of impactful initiatives over the years, ranging from helping start the City of Omaha’s first curbside recycling program in 1973 to planting thousands of diverse trees throughout Omaha parks, trails, and other public spaces as part of our Tree Canopy Improvement initiatives. Thanks to the support of thousands of volunteers each year, we continue to help ensure that Omaha’s urban and natural environments are clean, beautiful, and environmentally sustainable.

One Omaha

One Omaha’s mission is to empower people where they live.

We value inclusive participation in the growth of our communities and are passionate about enhancing the quality of life in our city. We benefit communities by addressing the lack of capacity in neighborhoods and helping them gain greater control of their own development. Our impact builds human, technical, and conceptual skills to sustain civic and community efforts to achieve a resident-led vision for neighborhoods throughout Omaha.

Our vision is to be the people’s resource for developing thriving neighborhoods in Omaha.

Eight Free or Low-Cost Mental Health Resources

Omaha residents have access to a variety of free and low-cost mental health resources, including counseling services, crisis support, peer groups, and community wellness programs. These organizations work to make mental health care more accessible by providing support, education, and connections to local services for individuals and families in need.

Sustainability Learning Lab at Bellevue University

This Sustainability Learning Lab is a 7,000 square foot lab that includes a greenhouse, an algae pond, a native Nebraska plants garden, and solar generation stations. It will provide students with the opportunity to do hands-on research and the community a space to enjoy.
