About
My name is Roger Petersen. I’m happily retired but continuing to pursue my passions. My personal mission is to highlight the essential need of CRITICAL THINKING for the good of all of us. In doing so I would like to recognize today’s heroes and help create new ones.
New Heroes Project’s first event will be held in the Council Bluffs area for middle school age youth and their parents/guardians, providing information in regard to the rapid changes and challenges that this age group faces both mentally and physically. This is also a window of opportunity to reach out to these young folks due to the fact that this time period is also when these young people begin to understand abstract thinking.
To me critical thinking is a mindset (a habitual or characteristic mental attitude that determines how you will interpret and respond to situations) which can be achieved through cooperative learning.
Following the event, I plan to offer and form small discussion groups to begin the development of critical thinking and take advantage of cooperative learning. Cooperative learning not only exposes a person to the thought processes of others but also expands their own thinking processes. My approach to these groups is based on common sense and realism. I have conducted many groups over the years, both professionally and voluntarily. Always with a common sense premise.
If you or your organization would like to be part of empowering young minds and acknowledging the Heroes in our community please contact, there is much to be discussed.
